Have any of you actually tried the Fisher Space Pen that was developed by NASA to write when upside down for the space program? There seem to be a lot of versions of it - here is one from amazon.com

I like the smooth feel of a gel pen but find that they can be streaky, smudge easily and run out quickly. Ball point pens are more reliable but can be blotchy and what about being acid free to last over time? Anyone have a favorite? Here are some links on the topic I found.
